Very solid picks considering he didn't choose from new releases. I'm not sure I'd have made any of the same picks though -- and I find his '71 and '73 picks especially odd. I'm also a little surprised to not find even one post-coma show on there. And not one show from '68. But it's a personal list, I guess, so there's no point in arguing about it.

We could leave comments on the site arguing about it... Tell him 11/30/80 doesn't belong on the list! :)

Yeah. And tell him he misrepresented CC's* simple use of a descriptive adjective in order to make it seem like a silly claim about the origins of hip hop.

Makes you wonder about the rest of the article. Like, did Phil really order beets? Or was it, maybe, citrus beet salad with avocado lime dressing? C'mon, Nick. Tell the whole story.

* That's clementinescaboose, not Cosmic Charlie, who I'm sure can misrepresent himself without any help from the New Yorker :-)

Agreed: too hurried there through the beets! I also noted that he claimed the GD played Broadway. As far as I know, Jerry played there only with JGB and JGAB. Good as it is, Nick's piece gives very short mention to JGB, a band that (correct me if I'm wrong) played almost as many gigs in its history as the GD.

BTW, does anyone happen to have a direct email address for Paumgarten (not through the New Yorker, as the computer I'm using can't access its webmail software)?
